Coin Collectors and Silver Dollars

If there is one style of coins that serve as the most frequent inspiration for someone to begin collecting coins it is silver dollars. This is due to a wide variety of factors including their overall good looks, wide availability, flexible range of prices, and the way that they tend to retain and increase in value.

Silver dollars have been minted in an enormous array of styles over the past few hundred years, and some are highly collectible. This makes them one of the best ways to develop a good coin collection, but it is always important to do a bit of research before doing even a simple purchase. Consider that one of the first silver dollars many people receive are those that were minted during the year of their birth. Not all coins from a single year will have the same value, however, and a bit of research could indicate that a specific mintmark gives a coin more dollar value than another.

While research is always the key to successful collecting and investing, it might also pay to create a collecting or investing plan. For example, someone might decide to become strictly a collector of Morgan silver dollars. Though these had mint years of a somewhat limited range, they could easily serve to meet the needs of an investor thanks to the quality and popularity of the coins, but they could also become a good plan for a coin collection altogether (i.e. working to get a copy of each coin minted between 1878 and 1921).

In addition to having a plan and doing research, it is vitally important to also work with a knowledgeable vendor who can ensure that all silver dollars and other coins are priced fairly and are certified too.
